Case Description
In this Evaluating Investment Returns and Index Performance project, you've started a new position as a trading analyst for the Vanguard Group—a leading American investment management company. As a trading analyst, you primarily focus on the execution and analysis of ETF trades, while also collaborating on mutual fund portfolio adjustments and supporting overall investment operations. You'll work closely with experienced traders, the sales team, and colleagues specializing in retail and institutional accounts. Your role also includes participation in broader operations and sales initiatives that strengthen the trading desk's overall performance.
Considering the diversity of your responsibilities, you'll need to monitor various asset classes and index performance, including investment returns, ranging from equities and bonds to commodities and real estate. This is due to the varied nature of the ETFs and mutual funds offered by the Vanguard Group. Catering to retail and institutional investors, you must adapt to their different needs, risk tolerance, and investment horizons.

For this project, you’ll work with a dataset provided by the Vanguard Group, available in the Excel file titled “Vanguard Group.xlsx.” The file is organized into four distinct sheets—Case 1 through Case 4—each corresponding to a specific scenario you'll analyze.
Each case contains detailed data and context designed to guide you through a unique set of tasks. As you progress, you’ll apply financial concepts and perform calculations directly within the spreadsheet to answer the accompanying questions. Be sure to review each sheet carefully, as the insights you extract will form the foundation for your investment analysis and decision-making throughout the project.
