In the data displayed, some of the last quarter values are bigger than last year values ?
should it not be the other way around ?

No, both situations are possible because you are comparing daily values.
See below example for current period 05.01.2012 - 09.01.2012 compared with last year (05.01.2011 - 09.01.2011) and last quarter (05.10.2011 - 09.10.2011)
