How to calculate

thanks for reaching out! The Normal Distribution is something that's very useful in Statistics, as it has some nice properties. In combination with the Central Limit Theorem, CLT, it gives us a way to approximate dataset to a normal distribution, and use those nice properties on many different datasets. 

In that sense, a distribution is something that is inherited in a data set, or sample of points, and we can check for it, but can't construct it per say. So, it's more the other way around, when we have a dataset, we can check the distribution, for example via a histogram, or using a QQ and determine whether the data is close enough to the gaussian, so that we can assume it is indeed normaly distributed, and use its properties to make further analyses on the data, for example hypothesis testing.
