Adding named ranges actually works!
Presenter said you can't sum named ranges. In this lecture I can type '=SUM(SALES12+SALES13)' and it works (59.5). Maybe newer version of Excel on my end?

The functions are working but not the formulas. =SALES12+SALES13 will not get you the result.
