What if Sample size was same?

In the CI of independent samples where variances are unknown but assumed to be equal, what if the sample sizes of the apples in NY and apples in LA were the same? Would we still add the two sample sizes and subtract 2 for the t-statistic?

Yes, even if the sample sizes are the same, you would still add the two sample sizes and subtract 2 to calculate the degrees of freedom for the t-statistic in the case of independent samples with unknown but equal variances.
