renaming cell ranges

in Introduction to Excel / Using Named Ranges to Make Formulas More Readable

This does not work in my Excel.  I've changed the cell range names and it does not recognise it in the SUM formula.  I've double-checked and the formula is spelled exactly correctly as it should.

Okay it works when I rename in the dropdown menu
