Compared to all other programming languages, Java and Python are relatively similar. They sometimes serve a similar (or identical) purpose but due to the difference in their strong points they slightly differ in application.

My point is that if, for example, a person is using Java for data science or machine learning, they will be able to relatively quickly switch into Python or vice versa. Obviously, there are technical obstacles to overcome but particularly with the help of AI today, a piece of code that would work on Java could be successfully transformed into Python code in a matter of seconds (or vice versa). Then, there's the question of possessing a larger arsenal of programming tools in the second language and developing the intuition of using it.

To conclude, depending on the field of application and the programmer's experience, as well as the depth of the complexity of the given programming task(s), it could be a matter of just a few weeks or a few months to completely transfer skills from one language to the other.
